We recommend bringing your child in for the first dental visit after the first tooth comes in or by 12 months of age—whichever comes sooner. This visit will involve an exam, cleaning, fluoride application, and discussion of oral hygiene and diet. We will also discuss techniques to prevent decay and to avoid harmful habits.
If your child is older than 12 months old and has not yet been to a dentist, please do not worry! We are happy to see your children at any age and will do everything we can to make them feel at ease for their first visit. See Dr. Appareddy quoted in a “Today” article regarding your child’s first dental visit: https://www.today.com/parents/chrissy-teigen-mom-shamed-over-luna-s-1st-dentist-visit-t156838
Remember to speak to your children in a positive way when discussing their upcoming first dental visit. Children can feel parents’ anxiety, so it’s important for you to be as relaxed as possible. If there’s anything we can do to relieve your worries, please don’t hesitate to contact us with questions. We want for these dental visits to be a positive experience for the whole family. Also, please feel free to bring your child in for a tour of our office before the first visit!
